  • File name: Cloudy-Reader-0.0.1-macos-arm64.zip

Open the version 0.0.1 release on GitHub

On the release page, click Cloudy-Reader-0.0.1-macos-arm64.zip under Assets. The Source code archives hold the code and not the app.

Cloudy Reader needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26.2 or later. Check your Mac shows how to read your chip and macOS version, and lists the disk space and network needs. If a requirement fails, see Your Mac is not supported.

The SHA-256 is a fingerprint of the file. If your copy has the same SHA-256, it is the same file as the published one. The value for Cloudy-Reader-0.0.1-macos-arm64.zip is:

cf363ff419296e00b1d4406a7d846329f4712e0ac86bd9c022e8c1c70fd8ce6d

To check your copy:

  1. Open Terminal. It is in Applications > Utilities.

  2. Go to the folder that holds the zip. If your browser saves files in Downloads, run this command:

    Terminal window
    cd ~/Downloads
  3. Run the check:

    Terminal window
    echo "cf363ff419296e00b1d4406a7d846329f4712e0ac86bd9c022e8c1c70fd8ce6d Cloudy-Reader-0.0.1-macos-arm64.zip" | shasum -a 256 -c

The output must read:

Cloudy-Reader-0.0.1-macos-arm64.zip: OK

Any other output means the download is damaged or is not this release. Delete the zip and download it again. See The checksum does not match. If the mismatch repeats, follow Report a security issue.

For a school or work review, Security and code signing explains the signature, and Privacy lists every network use.

  1. Double-click the zip in Finder to unzip it.
  2. Drag Cloudy Reader to the Applications folder. Do this before you open the app.
  3. Open Cloudy Reader. macOS blocks the first launch until you approve it once. Follow Approve the app.

Cloudy Reader is in the Applications folder. The app is signed ad hoc and is not notarized, which is why macOS asks for the approval.

Next, open the app, let the voices download, and hear a sample question. To update or remove the app later, see Install, update, and uninstall.

Release notes lists what each version changed and its known limits. The app never checks for updates, so get a later version from all releases on GitHub when you want one.
